Ginny Monk, a CT Mirror investigative reporter and winner of the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for local reporting, will speak at the 41st annual High School Journalism Day on Friday, Oct. 23.

Monk, along with the CT Mirror’s Dave Altimari and a data team from Pro Publica, reported on how Connecticut towing laws were being misused to overcharge residents. The full series and Pulitzer announcement can be viewed here.
Monk grew up in Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas’ Lemke School of Journalism in 2017. She began her career at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette where she covered housing, homelessness, juvenile justice, and investigations.
Along the way Ginny was awarded a 2019 Data Fellowship through the Annenberg Center for Health Journalism at the University of Southern California. She moved to Connecticut in 2021 and covered housing for Hearst CT. Monk previously covered housing and children’s issues for the CT Mirror.
High School Journalism Day will be held at the Adanti Student Center from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. where students will participate in workshops and learn journalism tips from SCSU faculty and journalism association leaders. Monk will deliver her speech in the ASC ballroom from 11 a.m – 12 p.m.
