40th annual High School Journalism Day

WTNH-New Haven reporter Kent Pierce

The 40th annual High School Journalism Day will be held on Oct. 24, with reporter Kent Pierce as keynote speaker.

Pierce is a reporter at WTNH-News8 in New Haven and adjunct professor in the SCSU Journalism Department.

Pierce joined News8 on the last day of 1999 and has covered all majors stories in Connecticut ever since ranging from political scandals to major storms, to even being the first to report live from the schene of the Sandy Hook tragedy. Connecticut Magazine has named him “Best TV Reporter” in the state.

Pierce is from from New York and grew up in the newsroom of Poughkeepsie Journal, where his mother was a reporter. He then got his first job in radio at age 17 and attended Columbia University, graduating with a B.A. in Sociology and M.S. in Broadcast Journalism.

The event will be hosted at the Adanti Student Center From 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. where students will participate in workshops and learn journalism tips from SCSU faculty and journalism association leaders. Pierce will be delivering his speech in the ASC ballroom from 11 a.m – 12 p.m.
